Hi Richard. Can you check your ULS logs when you try to send the message and send any errors, exceptions that are happening? Also, did you enable the site feature and then the web feature?

richardt478 wrote Jun 6, 2013 at 5:31 PM

No I don't try to do that, I will try tomorrow at work.
Yes I enable the site feature and web feature.

Another something weard. At first I tried with your 1.2 version in order to have images. With this version, I didn't have any issues to sending message, but I had issues with user images.
User image didn't want to appears.
after having a look on the url of the image, I saw that the href of the image was composed of something like that :
href ="url_image_user url_image_user"
So the reference of the image user couldn't work

Did you have any idea

I hope so you understand me :)

Hello Steve

I have another question for you, once again sorry

How can I use ULS Log to see what's happening. I 'm a beginner in sharepoint so I never use this software
What do I configure in sharepoint central administration -> Monitoring ?

richardt478 wrote Jun 7, 2013 at 9:47 AM

Ok I find my problem but I don't undestand why It happended
It's pparently due to the list Chat Message. when I want to click on it, sharepoint told me that
I hope so you can help even if the stacktrace is in french

Thanks in advance

That definitely sounds like a permission problem if you are able to see the Chat Messages list in the administrator.
  1. Check to see that there is a SharePoint Messenger Group in your site. If the group is not there, the feature was not installed correctly. Deactivate the web feature and then the site feature and then reactivate the site then web features. If the group is there, make sure your user is in the group.
  2. Log in as a site administrator and check the Chat Messages list to make sure that the SharePoint Messenger Group has permissions on the list. If the group does not have permission either give it permission or toggle the two features.
I will look into this further tonight or tomorrow. What timezone are you in?

richardt478 wrote Jun 7, 2013 at 1:38 PM

Ok I will have a look on your ideas to check my permissions

I'm in France so timezone +1

richardt478 wrote Jun 7, 2013 at 1:48 PM

I checked Sharepoint messenger group and it's ok for this point, I've user in this group

But for chat messages List, i haven't group for this list and when I want to click on this list, sharepoint displays on the screen, the error message that I gave you before.

But in the permission of the sharepoint messenger group, i'm able to see the following line
http://site_name/Lists/Chat Messages Sharepoint Messenger User

So it should be good no ?

SteveMAnderson wrote Jun 13, 2013 at 12:25 AM

Yes, I don't know why there would be any issue actually navigating to the Chat Messages List. I am not sure of the "http://site_name/Lists/Chat Messages Sharepoint Messenger User" url that you sent me. The list location should be http://site_name/Lists/Chat%20Messages/AllItems.aspx. Please try to get to this url and then see if you can add an item to the list using the ribbon instead of the messenger window. If you have an issue adding/viewing the list then it's a permission problem. If you can add an item to the list then it's a bug perhaps? Also, please try a different browser, I know that there were issues with IE9 for sharepoint 2010. I am currently building first in chrome because it seems to work most of the time. Sorry about my late reply, marriage planning is taking a lot of my spare time.

richardt478 wrote Jun 13, 2013 at 9:57 AM

No problem for your late reply. your answer will help me to solve my problem, I 'm sure of that.
So I used your url and I've tested it with your to release
With the 1.1, I don't achieve to access to the list. So you told me that it's a issue of permission. How could I modifiy the permission ?

However I deploy your 1.2 version and with that version I success with accessing to the list. So I will integrate your 1.2 version. Even if I have problems with images with this version. Sorry I accumulate issues :)
Apparently, after having a look on the url of the image, I saw that the href of the image was composed of something like that :
href ="url_image_user url_image_user"

richardt478 wrote Jun 13, 2013 at 2:56 PM

So I deploy your 1.2 release ans I always have a problem with user images
i download your code and I find where the user images were loaded.
I finally undestand that it was in the jquery
// get the user data
            Repository.Contacts.GetContactInfoByID(
                id,
                function (xhr) {
                    var obj = jQuery.parseJSON(xhr.responseText);
                    img.attr('src', obj.ImageUrl);
                    name.html(obj.Name);
                    emailaddress.html(obj.EmailAddress);
                },
                { "ContactID": id },
                function (xmlhttp, params) {
                    alert(xmlhttp.statusText);
                });
            return info;
        }
but in obj.imageUser I have this link
<img alt="User Image" src="http://site/my/User%20Photos/Images%20du%20profil/atol_hwang_MThumb.jpg http://site/my/User%20Photos/Images%20du%20profil/atol_hwang_MThumb.jpg">

You see, I have a double link in my src
So my question is where is load the user image in the code

Thanks in advance

SteveMAnderson wrote Jun 13, 2013 at 10:59 PM

hmm, that looks like you placed a url twice in the picture field of your user. If you go edit the user information for that user, what does the field look like? I only have the one url and it's working fine...

SteveMAnderson wrote Jun 13, 2013 at 10:59 PM

Oh, check out the capture attachment that I added to show where I am talking about.

richardt478 wrote Jun 14, 2013 at 9:08 AM

I find the edit personal setting however it doesn't look like your picture. My edit personnal settings screens only my name but not the picture URL. So how can I make to modify the picture URL in thsi layout

But I checked in my profil with : http://sitename/my/Person.aspx? and the url of the image is correct.
From the beginning, I've had my user picture in this view.
If it helps you to understand

SteveMAnderson wrote Jul 1, 2013 at 7:18 PM

I think I have found the bug in the code. It was actually in the Repositories.cs at public Contact GetByID near line 92.
                if (item["Picture"] != null)
                {
                    imageUrl = item["Picture"].ToString();
                    int firstComma = imageUrl.IndexOf(',');
                    imageUrl = imageUrl.Substring(0, firstComma);
                }
SharePoint actually concatenates the image and the image description by comma. I updated for the comma and it will work in the next version.
