I've got everything installed, and I believe configured correctly, but I'm getting the error shown above.

I do have users in my SharePoint Messenger group (including myself.)

I added the web part through the browser, and not directly to the Master page in Designer - does this make a difference?

This shouldn't make a difference. The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is that you have the list installed on a different site than you have the webpart. If this is the case you need to set the webpart property for the list site location. What version of SharePoint are you using? Also can you check your ULS logs for the time that you get the error?

Here's the error from the ULS Logs:

07/03/2013 09:56:25.22 w3wp.exe (0x0CA4) 0x0C20 Unknown Sharepoint Messenger 0000 Unexpected Group cannot be found. 89565b44-e842-46b1-b503-e4273b243657

Hmm, I know this is a bit of a hassle, but I would suggest going to your web features and disabling the sharepoint messenger feature, then going to the site features and disabling the sharepoint messenger site feature. Then enable the site feature and then the web feature. Then add the users back to the group.

Also, did you change the name of the group?

I did not change the name of the group, and I just deactivated and reactivated the features. Still the same result.

Did you install at the root web level?

Also get the same issure on my SharePoint 2010 Environment: Webpart Display "Could not load contacts at this time."

My ULS - Log:
08/20/2013 17:54:35.18 w3wp.exe (0x128C) 0x1B20 Unknown Sharepoint Messenger 0000 Unexpected Group cannot be found. f7fffa79-b400-46c0-86c2-ab9df705e025

I tryed both, Installation at root level and at a sub-site.

Installed Version 1.3.

Any idea?

Thanks

That looks like the group name is incorrect...."Sharepoint Messenger 0000" OR that's the error code and sharepoint is looking for the group "Sharepoint Messenger" that isn't even there. Check to see if there is a group called "Sharepoint Messenger" firstly. If there isn't one, there could have been a problem with the installation and enabling of the feature. Also, check to see if there is a sharepoint messenger permission. If there is one there then it's got to be the feature installation and enabling...
